2007 APPEAL LETTER
Dear Friends,
We have much good news to report this fall. We have received our 501(C)(3) non-profit status approval from the IRS, added two wonderful new members to our Board of
Directors, and above all, have hired our program leaders.
It is with great joy that we introduce John and Penni Greene, Executive Director and Program Director of High Spirit Community Farm. As of September 2007 the Greene’s have relocated their family to Great Barrington, Massachusetts and are moving High Spirit Community Farm from the hope and dream stage to a reality. John and Penni are extraordinary people-they are experienced, Camphill trained teachers who have just the energy, devotion and strong will to bring life to High Spirit Community Farm. John and Penni will both direct High Spirit and be lifesharing householders, sharing their home with people with disabilities.
In addition to John and Penni, we would like to introduce two new High Spirit Board members. Eric Maskin has long been a friend and has worked to support Camphill for many years. Eric brings a calm intelligence to our board, as well as the experience of
parenting a child with severe special needs. You may recognize Eric’s name as he was just honored with the Nobel prize for his work in Economics. Jennie Reins has also joined the Board. Jennie is founder and director of Leander House, Inc., a non-profit
organization which sponsors three lifesharing homes in the Great Barrington area,
including her own home. She is a co-founder of The Alliance for Special Needs, an agency which provides consultation, administrative help and other support related
to state funding and to the Department of Mental Retardation.
High Spirit will be a cost effective, socially and environmentally conscientious addition to the choices available for people living with disability here in Massachusetts. There is
a lot to be done! We are anxious to purchase our first farm. We will need to make the renovations necessary to ensure that houses and barns are healthful and conducive to community life and meaningful and productive work. Additional staff must be hired, houses furnished and farm equipment purchased.
Please consider making a gift to support High Spirit Community Farm. Your gift will move High Spirit forward at this critical time.
Sincerely,
HSCF Board
