On March 22, 2025, we said goodbye to our dear friend, Austin Davis. We did not have nearly enough time with this caring, musical, strong, hilarious young man.

Austin arrived at High Spirit in the spring of 2021 at age 24. He took on the role that we didn’t know we needed, fun younger brother. He clearly looked up to his housemates and neighbors, seeking their attention with mischievous antics, his lovable nature winning us all over.

Austin taught us how to listen to and respect the autonomy of someone who does not use a lot of words to communicate. For this we are more patient, curious, and humble. He taught us flexibility, as he diligently worked toward that skill himself. He taught us his one-of-a-kind music and beats, which were the happy soundtrack of his home.

And he brought the party! His music playlist was the community celebration playlist, and he always got the dancing started.

We will never be the same without you, Austin. We miss you and we will take your lessons with us, giving us a better understanding of our world.

Austin will be deeply missed in his home at High Spirit, Aurora House. His housemates will particularly miss how lively the home was due to his laughter, silly pranks and constant humming and singing. Without him, there has been a deep silence that we are struggling to fill.

Austin made this profession so special to me. Through him, I didn’t only find purpose in what do every day, but I was fortunate to find the most special friend and a family of its own. Living Life with Austin has taught me so much about myself. I will forever cherish the memories Austin and I built together. Austin, meeting you and sharing a life with you was a true privilege!

Working side by side with Austin in the garden brought peace to my day. When he engaged in a task, he did so with with a quiet musical contentment. We are so fortunate to have shared those moments with him.
